ARE YOU PRACTICING REAL SELF-CARE OR FAUX SELF-CARE?

Hey there, Reader!

Yup, I'm talking about self-care again!

When I asked my client Natalia what area of wellness would she like to focus on next:

movement
nutrition
stress
sleep
self-care/recovery

She said, "ISN'T IT ALL SELF-CARE?"

She does have a point!

In her book Real Self-Care, Dr. Pooja Lakshmin outlines the differences between real and faux self-care. Her main premise is that real self-care transforms one's relationship with others or oneself.

It's more about what got you there, what your intention is versus what the act is.

For example, if you are going to a yoga class to check off that you did something for yourself but stressing that you aren't doing all the poses perfectly, that would be FAUX SELF-CARE, but if you went to a yoga class knowing that it is important for you to set boundaries with your family, and carving this "me-time" activity helps you deal with stress better, and in the end will help you be more patience with your loved ones...well, that is real self-care.

If you are interested in learning more about this book and meeting other women who are also interested in learning more about real vs faux self-care, be sure to register for our first MVW Virtual Book Group!

We will meet tomorrow night from 7 pm -8 pm (Tuesday, May 7th).

I'll send discussion questions later tonight, so be sure to register ASAP!

You can register HERE!

I look forward to hearing your thoughts either in the book group tomorrow night (Tuesday, May 7th) or by simply hitting 'reply'!

How do you practice self-care?

Until then,

Happy Monday!
